Marriage

Main article: Marriage

Once married, Leah will move into the farmhouse. Like other marriage candidates, she will add her own room to the right of the bedroom. She’ll also set up a small area behind the farmhouse where she’ll sometimes go to work on a sculpture.

On rainy mornings, Leah may offer you a gift she found while «mushroom-hunting»: Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, or Morel. On mornings when Leah stays indoors all day, she may offer you Coffee or a gift grown in «a little pot out back»: Wild Horseradish, Daffodil, Leek, Dandelion, Cactus Fruit, Fiddlehead Fern, Spice Berry, or Sweet Pea. She may also offer you a Salad on days when she stays indoors all day. On New Years’ Eve (Winter 28), she’ll give you a bottle of Wine.

Winter

Festival of Ice

Festival of Ice

Main article: Festival of Ice

The Festival of Ice takes place on the 8th of every Winter. You enter the festival by entering Cindersap Forest between 9am and 2pm. When the festival ends, you will be returned to The Farm at 10pm.

At the festival there are ice sculptures and igloos set up. There’s also an Ice Fishing Contest you can take part in along with Pam, Willy, and Elliott. Getting at least five fish in the first year will win you two tackles, 1 Magnet bait and a Sailor’s Cap. In subsequent years, winning the contest will award 2,000g.

The festival ends after Mayor Lewis announces the winner of the Ice Fishing contest.

Night Market

Night Market

Main article: Night Market

The Night Market takes place during Winter 15-17, on the beach, from 5pm-2am. The festival features shops, a mermaid show, and a deep-sea fishing submarine where you can catch unique fish.

Unlike other festivals, shops and homes throughout Stardew Valley are not closed on the days of the Night Market, and time continues to pass during the festival.

Feast of the Winter Star

Feast of the Winter Star

Main article: Feast of the Winter Star

The Feast of the Winter Star takes place on the 25th of every Winter. You attend the festival by entering Pelican Town between 9am and 2pm. When you leave the festival, you will be returned to The Farm at 10pm.

The main event of the Feast of the Winter Star is secret gift-giving. A random villager will be selected to give you a gift, and you are assigned a random villager to give a gift to. A week beforehand, on the 18th, Mayor Lewis will send a letter telling you who your gift recipient is. At the festival, talking to your gift recipient will pop up your inventory to decide gift to give. Upon giving a gift, recipient will give a response and player’s gift-receiving cutscene occurs, where you’ll find out who is giving you a gift at the festival.

The festival ends when you leave Pelican Town.

Marriage

After marriage Claire will move to the farm and have her own side room like original marriage candidates. Outside, she turns the spouse area into a small garden for growing tea saplings. Claire splits her time between the property and working at JojaMart or the Movie Theater, but she will take Friday’s off to stay on the farm. She also continues to go to aerobics class on Tuesdays.

In the morning, she will often gift a Coffee or possibly offer a breakfast of Complete Breakfast, Omelet, Fried Egg, Hashbrowns, or Pancakes. On particularly tired mornings she may gift you a Triple Shot Espresso instead. In the evening, Claire continues to expand her cooking outside of JojaMart frozen meals. If she bakes, it will be Chocolate Cake, Pink Cake, Rhubarb Pie, Cookie, Blueberry Tart, Blackberry Cobbler, Cranberry Candy, or Pumpkin Pie for desert. For regular dinner it might be Spaghetti, Eggplant Parmesan, Crispy Bass, Salmon Dinner, or Cheese Cauliflower, and if she’s feeling healthy Salad, Radish Salad, Fruit Salad, Vegetable Medley, Roasted Hazelnuts, or Fiddlehead Risotto. Claire can also give Fried Mushrooms, Pumpkin Soup, Autumn’s Bounty, or Shrimp Cocktail.

Character creation

Main article: The Player
Article Stub

This article is marked as a stub for the following reason:

Need to mention and/or link to the new Advanced Options menu. Show the wrench icon and the farm selection dialog.

The character creation screen allows customization options, such as character Appearance, Gender, Name, Farm Name, Favorite Thing, and Animal Preference.

  • There are 2 genders, 24 skin tones, 73 hairstyles, 112 shirts, 4 pants, 20 accessories, and 6 animals (3 cats and 3 dogs) to choose from.
  • The villagers will refer to you matching the case you put your name in — for example, if you put all lowercase, the first letter will not be corrected to uppercase. {confirmed on mobile iOS only}
  • The sliders next to eye color, hair color, and pants color represent hue, saturation, and value.
  • Animal Preference determines which pet will arrive on the farm later.
  • Gender does not affect in-game marriage.
  • The «Favorite Thing» will be referenced in-game when the player eats a Stardrop. If the player chooses ConcernedApe (Capital C and A) as their favorite thing, the following message will appear when eaten.

If the player puts anything containing Stardew (capital S), then the following message will appear.

Players can later change their appearance for 500g, in the Wizard’s Tower, after reaching 4 Hearts of friendship with him or gaining access to the Witch’s Hut and using the portal within.

Relationships

As nobody has challenged Lewis for his title of mayor in the twenty years he has held the position, we can assume he has a good relationship with everyone living in Pelican Town. He was apparently good friends with the player’s grandfather; if the player speaks to him while he is at The Stardrop Saloon, Lewis states that he will be having an extra drink in your grandfather’s honor.

In parallel with his work as mayor, he is also involved in the Stardew Valley Agricultural Fund. He may send the player a letter that includes money from the fund, «to help you continue your good work,» such as using it to buy seeds.

He has never been married and has no family; all he lives for is being mayor. He sometimes questions if it was worth it.

Lewis is particularly good friends with Marnie, as shown in story quest. He can also sometimes be found inside Marnie’s Ranch saying, «I’m just here to make sure all of Marnie’s business needs are met.» Additionally, his and Marnie’s 6-heart event confirms that they’re in a relationship, although he doesn’t want the relationship to become public knowledge

Enchantments

Main article:
Warning: Spoilers

This page or section contains unmarked spoilers from update 1.5 of Stardew Valley. Mobile players may want to avoid or be cautious toward reading this article.

A random enchantment can be added to any weapon or tool, with the exceptions of the Copper Pan, Return Scepter, Scythe, and Golden Scythe. This costs one Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards.

Each weapon or tool can only have one enchantment, and the applied enchantment is random. However, another Prismatic Shard can be used to re-randomize it. Tools track the previous two enchantments applied to them so they’re not reselected when reapplying an enchantment.

Upgrading Tools will not remove enchantments already on them.

Enchantments are randomized based on the number of times any tool has been enchanted, so reloading the day and enchanting a different tool will change the progression.

Quotes

Regular

First Meeting

“Ahoy there! It’s nice to see young folk movin’ in to the valley. It’s not very common these days.”

Regular

“Ahoy there, [son/lass]. Looks like decent weather for fishing, eh?”
“Have you had much luck in the local waters? You look like you could be a strong angler if you set your mind to it.”
“A true angler has respect for the water… don’t you forget that.”
“Some fish come and go with the seasons. Others only come out at night or in the rain.”
“*mumble* *mumble* …Eh? I would tell you about my thoughts, but it’s a fisherman’s secret”
“ There are rumors of some very rare fish in these parts… but only an experienced angler could stand a chance against them. You’ll need the finest bait you can get if you want a rare fish to bite.”
“If you really want to get the fish biting, make sure you put some bait on your hook.”
“If the local fishing scene got a bit more lively, I might expand the shop’s stock.”
“If you purchase a high quality fishing rod, you’ll be able to attach bait and tackle to the line. Bait causes fish to bite faster. Tackle can make your job a lot easier when reeling fish in. There are all kinds of tackle, with different perks. They’re usually a little flimsy, so don’t be surprised if your tackle breaks after a while.”

6+ Hearts

“The ol’ Man was a fisherman, you know. I grew up sailing between the fern islands, living from catch to catch. The fishing life is tough, but there’s something about it that keeps you goin’.”

8+ Hearts

“How’s the fishing life going for ya? I try to fish as often as possible, but it’s not easy when you’ve got a shop to run.”

10+ Hearts

“Hey, it’s my skipper, ! I’d give you a discount on bait if I could afford it.”
Events
“Sometimes I’ll hide an egg too well and no one finds it… Well, until summer rolls around. Then the hot air starts to bring out the rotten smell… Hehe.”
“I should’ve brought my fishing pole.”
“Hi there, . Taking a breather? To tell you the truth, I’d rather be fishing right now.”
“Most night-fish would be scared of the light… these are strange ones.”
“Are you setting up a grange display, ? It’s your chance to show off all the good produce from !”
“Hey, . Ready for some ice fishing?”
Yes. I’ll do my best! (No effect on friendship.)

«That’s the spirit!»
Yes, and I’m going to beat you! (No effect on friendship.)

«We’ll see.»
To be honest, no. I’m bad at fishing. (No effect on friendship.)

«Well, then think of it as good practice!»
Do you want to hear the Legend of the Winter Star?”
Yes (No effect on friendship.)

«In the night sky of winter, there is a bright star only visible from this valley. No one knows why this is… but in times of old people would come from far and wide to see it.*They believed that anyone who laid eyes on the Winter Star would be blessed with good fortune. Some even claim that the mysterious fruit known as Stardrop is connected to the Winter Star in some way.»
No thanks (No effect on friendship.)

«Suit yourself.»

Experience Points

The amount of experience gained from harvesting crops varies from crop to crop, with more expensive crops giving more experience upon harvest. Crops that yield multiple produce per harvest, such as blueberry, cranberry, or potato, only reward experience for the first product and do not offer any extra experience for the multiples.

Petting a farm animal, milking a cow or goat, shearing a sheep, or picking up an animal product inside a coop gives 5 experience points each. (Picking up Truffles gives Foraging experience rather than Farming experience.)

To level up farming from level 0 to 1, it takes 13 parsnips, or 8 potatoes, or 5 cauliflowers. From level 0 to 2, it takes about 48 parsnips, or 28 potatoes, or 17 cauliflowers.

The experience points awarded are calculated using the formula where PRICE is the base sell price of the crop (listed in ObjectInformation.xnb). Silver or gold quality crops don’t grant more XP than normal-quality crops.

Harvesting forageable plants grown on the farm counts as 7 foraging experience points per plant rather than farming experience points.

Experience level is increased immediately upon harvesting, but the «level up» window doesn’t appear until after going to sleep.

Quotes

First Meeting

“A… customer?

Hi! Welcome to ‘Sandy’s Oasis’!
Hey, you look just like the new farmer that Emily wrote to me about!
Then… the bus line to Stardew Valley is back in service! Oh, I’m so happy!”

Regular

“Hello hello, sweetie! I’m so glad that the bus is back in service. It was starting to get lonely out here. …I almost went out of business. Hey, but now you’re here to buy a whole bunch of seeds… right, sweetie?”
“You can find coconuts and cactus fruits outside. Feel free to take as many as you can find. They’re oooh-yummy, too. Heeee!”
“Why hello there! If you see my friend Emily in town, could you tell her I said ‘Hi’? Thanks!”
“That shady-looking guy in the back? I’m not supposed to talk about it. Anyway… what’s the weather like in the valley?”
“You wouldn’t have much luck farming out here, honey. Well, unless you were a cactus farmer.”
“Hi! Welcome to Sandy’s Oasis, the number one destination in Calico Desert!

*whisper* Did I sound professional? Make sure to check out our seasonal seed selection.
You look really thirsty. Here, have a taste of this ice cold milk. Tasty, huh?”

“It’s always sunny here, even in winter! Actually, it’s a little hot for my tastes… my delicate skin burns quickly in the sun.”

4+ Hearts

“Hey… I think I can trust you. You can keep a secret, right? *whisper* That guy in the back… it’s some kind of exclusive club. I’ve never been inside myself, but they pay me a generous monthly rent so I don’t ask any questions. SOOOOoo! How’s that Stardew Valley weather right now?”
“My name’s not really Sandy, you know. It’s just good for business. But everyone calls me Sandy anyway, so I’ve just gotten used to it.”

8+ Hearts

“Isn’t it expensive, coming to the desert so often like you do? You must really like to see me, huh? Hmmm…”
“Hi there, honey. Yep, it’s just me, alone in this big old shop. Hmmm… Well, except for that creepy guy in the back. But he never moves a muscle, so I often forget about him.”

10 Hearts

“Hey, it’s ! I’m glad to see you, kid. I was starting to think you’d never come back!

If I didn’t have this shop to run I’d come back to the valley with you for a day or two… just you and me on the old farm.
You’ll just have to visit me more often so I don’t get depressed.”

“Hi!~ Stay as long as you like. The air conditioning sure feels nice, doesn’t it?”

After you receive «club card» and get rid of Bouncer

“What happened? You’re a club member?!”
