Marriage
- Main article: Marriage
Once married, Leah will move into the farmhouse. Like other marriage candidates, she will add her own room to the right of the bedroom. She’ll also set up a small area behind the farmhouse where she’ll sometimes go to work on a sculpture.
On rainy mornings, Leah may offer you a gift she found while «mushroom-hunting»: Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, or Morel. On mornings when Leah stays indoors all day, she may offer you Coffee or a gift grown in «a little pot out back»: Wild Horseradish, Daffodil, Leek, Dandelion, Cactus Fruit, Fiddlehead Fern, Spice Berry, or Sweet Pea. She may also offer you a Salad on days when she stays indoors all day. On New Years’ Eve (Winter 28), she’ll give you a bottle of Wine.

Festival of Ice
Festival of Ice
- Main article: Festival of Ice
The Festival of Ice takes place on the 8th of every Winter. You enter the festival by entering Cindersap Forest between 9am and 2pm. When the festival ends, you will be returned to The Farm at 10pm.
At the festival there are ice sculptures and igloos set up. There’s also an Ice Fishing Contest you can take part in along with Pam, Willy, and Elliott. Getting at least five fish in the first year will win you two tackles, 1 Magnet bait and a Sailor’s Cap. In subsequent years, winning the contest will award 2,000g.
The festival ends after Mayor Lewis announces the winner of the Ice Fishing contest.
Night Market
Night Market
- Main article: Night Market
The Night Market takes place during Winter 15-17, on the beach, from 5pm-2am. The festival features shops, a mermaid show, and a deep-sea fishing submarine where you can catch unique fish.
Unlike other festivals, shops and homes throughout Stardew Valley are not closed on the days of the Night Market, and time continues to pass during the festival.
Feast of the Winter Star
Feast of the Winter Star
- Main article: Feast of the Winter Star
The Feast of the Winter Star takes place on the 25th of every Winter. You attend the festival by entering Pelican Town between 9am and 2pm. When you leave the festival, you will be returned to The Farm at 10pm.
The main event of the Feast of the Winter Star is secret gift-giving. A random villager will be selected to give you a gift, and you are assigned a random villager to give a gift to. A week beforehand, on the 18th, Mayor Lewis will send a letter telling you who your gift recipient is. At the festival, talking to your gift recipient will pop up your inventory to decide gift to give. Upon giving a gift, recipient will give a response and player’s gift-receiving cutscene occurs, where you’ll find out who is giving you a gift at the festival.
The festival ends when you leave Pelican Town.
Marriage
After marriage Claire will move to the farm and have her own side room like original marriage candidates. Outside, she turns the spouse area into a small garden for growing tea saplings. Claire splits her time between the property and working at JojaMart or the Movie Theater, but she will take Friday’s off to stay on the farm. She also continues to go to aerobics class on Tuesdays.
In the morning, she will often gift a Coffee or possibly offer a breakfast of Complete Breakfast, Omelet, Fried Egg, Hashbrowns, or Pancakes. On particularly tired mornings she may gift you a Triple Shot Espresso instead. In the evening, Claire continues to expand her cooking outside of JojaMart frozen meals. If she bakes, it will be Chocolate Cake, Pink Cake, Rhubarb Pie, Cookie, Blueberry Tart, Blackberry Cobbler, Cranberry Candy, or Pumpkin Pie for desert. For regular dinner it might be Spaghetti, Eggplant Parmesan, Crispy Bass, Salmon Dinner, or Cheese Cauliflower, and if she’s feeling healthy Salad, Radish Salad, Fruit Salad, Vegetable Medley, Roasted Hazelnuts, or Fiddlehead Risotto. Claire can also give Fried Mushrooms, Pumpkin Soup, Autumn’s Bounty, or Shrimp Cocktail.

Character creation
- Main article: The Player
|
Article Stub
This article is marked as a stub for the following reason:
Need to mention and/or link to the new Advanced Options menu. Show the wrench icon and the farm selection dialog.
|
The character creation screen allows customization options, such as character Appearance, Gender, Name, Farm Name, Favorite Thing, and Animal Preference.
- There are 2 genders, 24 skin tones, 73 hairstyles, 112 shirts, 4 pants, 20 accessories, and 6 animals (3 cats and 3 dogs) to choose from.
- The villagers will refer to you matching the case you put your name in — for example, if you put all lowercase, the first letter will not be corrected to uppercase. {confirmed on mobile iOS only}
- The sliders next to eye color, hair color, and pants color represent hue, saturation, and value.
- Animal Preference determines which pet will arrive on the farm later.
- Gender does not affect in-game marriage.
- The «Favorite Thing» will be referenced in-game when the player eats a Stardrop. If the player chooses ConcernedApe (Capital C and A) as their favorite thing, the following message will appear when eaten.
If the player puts anything containing Stardew (capital S), then the following message will appear.
Players can later change their appearance for 500g, in the Wizard’s Tower, after reaching 4 Hearts of friendship with him or gaining access to the Witch’s Hut and using the portal within.
Relationships
As nobody has challenged Lewis for his title of mayor in the twenty years he has held the position, we can assume he has a good relationship with everyone living in Pelican Town. He was apparently good friends with the player’s grandfather; if the player speaks to him while he is at The Stardrop Saloon, Lewis states that he will be having an extra drink in your grandfather’s honor.
In parallel with his work as mayor, he is also involved in the Stardew Valley Agricultural Fund. He may send the player a letter that includes money from the fund, «to help you continue your good work,» such as using it to buy seeds.
He has never been married and has no family; all he lives for is being mayor. He sometimes questions if it was worth it.
Lewis is particularly good friends with Marnie, as shown in story quest. He can also sometimes be found inside Marnie’s Ranch saying, «I’m just here to make sure all of Marnie’s business needs are met.» Additionally, his and Marnie’s 6-heart event confirms that they’re in a relationship, although he doesn’t want the relationship to become public knowledge

Farming
- Main article: Farming
Farming skill is gained by harvesting crops. Caring for animals also adds experience: Petting, milking, and shearing farm animals or picking up an animal product inside a barn or coop each give 5 experience points. Using a hoe or watering can does not grant experience by itself. Each level grants +1 to hoes and watering cans.

Enchantments
- Main article:
|
Warning: Spoilers
This page or section contains unmarked spoilers from update 1.5 of Stardew Valley. Mobile players may want to avoid or be cautious toward reading this article.
|
A random enchantment can be added to any weapon or tool, with the exceptions of the Copper Pan, Return Scepter, Scythe, and Golden Scythe. This costs one Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards.
Each weapon or tool can only have one enchantment, and the applied enchantment is random. However, another Prismatic Shard can be used to re-randomize it. Tools track the previous two enchantments applied to them so they’re not reselected when reapplying an enchantment.
Upgrading Tools will not remove enchantments already on them.
Enchantments are randomized based on the number of times any tool has been enchanted, so reloading the day and enchanting a different tool will change the progression.
Combat enchantments
Only applies to melee weapons (can’t be applied to a slingshot)

Experience Points
The amount of experience gained from harvesting crops varies from crop to crop, with more expensive crops giving more experience upon harvest. Crops that yield multiple produce per harvest, such as blueberry, cranberry, or potato, only reward experience for the first product and do not offer any extra experience for the multiples.
Petting a farm animal, milking a cow or goat, shearing a sheep, or picking up an animal product inside a coop gives 5 experience points each. (Picking up Truffles gives Foraging experience rather than Farming experience.)
To level up farming from level 0 to 1, it takes 13 parsnips, or 8 potatoes, or 5 cauliflowers. From level 0 to 2, it takes about 48 parsnips, or 28 potatoes, or 17 cauliflowers.

The experience points awarded are calculated using the formula where PRICE is the base sell price of the crop (listed in ObjectInformation.xnb). Silver or gold quality crops don’t grant more XP than normal-quality crops.
Harvesting forageable plants grown on the farm counts as 7 foraging experience points per plant rather than farming experience points.
Experience level is increased immediately upon harvesting, but the «level up» window doesn’t appear until after going to sleep.

Then… the bus line to Stardew Valley is back in service! Oh, I’m so happy!”

“Hello hello, sweetie! I’m so glad that the bus is back in service. It was starting to get lonely out here. …I almost went out of business. Hey, but now you’re here to buy a whole bunch of seeds… right, sweetie?”

You’ll just have to visit me more often so I don’t get depressed.”
