Using The Regular Coop

The next thing to do is to purchase four chickens. Chickens can be bought at Marnie’s Ranch for 800 gold each. They will require care, so be sure to stock up on hay and/or give them an outdoor area where they can eat grass (though grass will not be available in winter). Hay can either be bought from Marnie or harvested using a scythe on grass (players will need to build a silo to harvest hay).

Each chicken will make one brown or white egg every morning. They will sell for 50 gold each. Be sure to pet the chickens to raise their friendship, as that will eventually make them produce large eggs, which sell for nearly double at 95 gold each.

If able, get a Mayonnaise Machine. With this, players, can turn eggs into mayonnaise and sell it for 190 gold — nearly four times as much coin as a regular old egg can get. As for cooking, it is best to just sell the eggs or sell them as mayonnaise rather than turn them into a meal to sell. Making a meal will actually make less money than selling the raw ingredients for the meal. For example, an omelette sells for 125 gold and requires a milk and egg, but milk alone sells for 125 gold already.

Stardew Valley Multiplayer Tips — Don’t Forget About the Other Players

This might seem silly, but the first thing I want to address in this Stardew Valley Multiplayer Guide: Don’t forget that the other players exist.

As someone with a couple hundred hours in the game, I know that it’s all about getting into a good groove. You have your daily routine, doing this or that in such a specific order every single day like clockwork. Or maybe, you’re more of a free spirit who runs around doing all sorts of different things willy-nilly.

When you have up to three other people with you—more on PC, with modding—you now have a new challenge. You have multiple people, each with their own agendas, all trying to get their stuff done in the space of a day. Whether you’re working alone or together, it can be a real challenge!

Experience Points

The amount of experience gained from harvesting crops varies from crop to crop, with more expensive crops giving more experience upon harvest. Crops that yield multiple produce per harvest, such as blueberry, cranberry, or potato, only reward experience for the first product and do not offer any extra experience for the multiples.

Petting a farm animal, milking a cow or goat, shearing a sheep, or picking up an animal product inside a coop gives 5 experience points each. (Picking up Truffles gives Foraging experience rather than Farming experience.)

To level up farming from level 0 to 1, it takes 13 parsnips, or 8 potatoes, or 5 cauliflowers. From level 0 to 2, it takes about 48 parsnips, or 28 potatoes, or 17 cauliflowers.

The experience points awarded are calculated using the formula where PRICE is the base sell price of the crop (listed in ObjectInformation.xnb). Silver or gold quality crops don’t grant more XP than normal-quality crops.

Stardew Valley Multiplayer Tips — Split up the Work

This will surely be one of the more self-evident points in this Stardew Valley multiplayer guide, but it bears mentioning nonetheless: You can split up the work and effectively work four times faster, but at four times the cost.

In my first multiplayer game, I focused on farming. One player loved to tend to the animals, another did a little bit of everything, and the last one loved to do fishing. Most of us also popped down to the mines every now and again.

At the end of an average day, the crops would all be tended, the animals would all be fed, we’d have a bucketful of fish, and occasionally a nice chunk of ore. There’s no way that one player could do all this, but a group of friends can do it!

GETTING STARTED

When you load the latest version of Stardew Valley, you’ll notice a brand new option: co-op. From there, you get the option to either join a game via LAN or through an invite code to play with each other over the internet. If you’re looking to host a game, you can create a new farm from scratch, or if you want to bring a friend into an existing farm, you can speak to Robin in that save file and build a cabin for your friends to move into.

To get your friends into your farm, you need to enter the menu and look in the multiplayer section under options. You’ll see several options for inviting friends, including displaying your unique friend code, which you can send to friends so they can directly join your farm. Since you’re on the PC, you can even add it to your clipboard, so you can paste it in a text chat.

Once you’re finally in a game with a friend, it’s the Stardew Valley you know and love. Your co-op partner will wake in the cabin you have for them on your farm, and you both can independently go about your days as you see fit.

SMALL CHANGES

While there aren’t many changes to the game with the introduction to co-op, there are some small things worth knowing.

First and foremost, all players share income. So whatever money you have is usable by all parties. At first this came as shock as I was farming and noticed my money rapidly disappearing. I freaked out until my partner informed me that she was off buying some new seeds for the farm. Whatever income you make and spend affects all players in real-time. Keep this in mind if you’re all out buying different things across the valley.

While I had the luxury of playing with my partner in the same room, most PC players will likely farm with their friends over the internet. To make sure you can chat with one another, you can press T on your keyboard and bring up a chat window (with Stardew Valley-specific emoji!). Be warned though: Whenever a message is sent, you won’t get an audible alert, so if you’re looking away from your screen, you may miss it. You can always press T to check your messages. Also, individual achievements, like donating items to the museum or being caught digging through the trash, are also displayed in the text message area.

At the end of each day, you can go to sleep as usual. However, the next day won’t start until all players are in bed. A cheeky quirk about this function is that you can sleep in the same bed with other players, if you’re so inclined.

In addition to that, we learned that if you become exhausted, you can actually recover energy by triggering the prompt to go to sleep, but then canceling. As long as you’re in still in bed, your energy will begin to restore itself. This is great if you end up getting exhausted well before your partners and don’t want to end your day to restore energy.

When you do go to sleep, the day’s tally of income made will include all items sold from all players. It should also be noted that quests, like the game’s first mission which requires you to cultivate and harvest a parsnip, is not shared. It’s player-specific, so make sure to not hog all the resources.

Two final tips: If either player has crafted a chest, any player can use it to store and retrieve items. If you’re holding an item in your hand, you can give it to other players as a gift by hitting the interact key.

How do I play online co-op in Stardew Valley?

If you want to create a new online multiplayer world, just follow these simple steps.

• On the title screen, select ‘co-op’ instead of ‘new game’
• Click ‘host farm’, then ‘host new farm’
• Ensure there is, at minimum, one cabin for each person who is joining
• You then get the option to choose a profit margin, and whether players will share a wallet or have their own. Profit margins cannot be changed after this point without save editing, but wallet sharing and building/demolishing cabins can be done at any time. More on profit sharing later
• Now you can have your friends join your brand new farm!

If you want to have people join an existing farm, you can simply choose to host the world. This will allow the other players to join through your mutual chosen platform. For example, on Switch, players can join remotely through Nintendo Switch Online, by going to the in-game ‘join’ tab.

How to play split screen co-op in Stardew Valley

So you’ve found someone in the same house who shares the same passion for satisfying lines of mayonnaise machines. Well, starting up Stardew Valley in split screen co-op on PC and console is thankfully as easy as running out of grass in the middle of winter. There are two main ways to start. 

If you’ve already got an active farm save and want someone to join you, just like online multiplayer, you’ll need to head to Robin the Carpenter and ask her to build a cabin for your new player. Thankfully, unlike her many other projects, Robin will build this instantly so you don’t need to wait two in game days for the work. There’s a choice of three different styles of cabin and each one can be levelled up.

Now that you have a cabin for your new farming friend, you just need to activate split screen co-op in the settings. Go into your inventory menu, scroll along to the controller icon and scroll down to the multiplayer option. Here you can select ‘Start Local Co-op’ and your sofa buddy will be able to join in.

If you’re starting a whole new farm, you can actually turn on the option for split screen multiplayer from the opening title. Just go to the Co-op option, select split screen and you can then go to ‘Host new farm.’ This will give you the chance to create a new farmer and it will automatically add an additional cabin which you can see on the left hand side. Here, you can select the profit margin to make sure you’re not making it too easy with there being two of you. You can also choose whether to keep your money as a shared pot or separate. We suggest keeping it shared as it means you can both go to the shop to spend your spoils on more seeds and there’s no worrying about who can afford to go where. 

This won’t automatically start split screen though. Once you have loaded the farm up, you’ll still need to go into your inventory screen, scroll along to settings and then start the split screen session in the multiplayer option. It’s time to get farming. Just remember to sleep, OK?

The Coops’ Special Features Explained

The Feeding Bench is the long wooden thing on the back wall of your coop and is used to (big surprise) feed your animals. Hay that you place on the bench will be consumed overnight by the animals who live in the Coop. The bench will change size each time you upgrade your Coop so that it can hold enough hay to feed the maximum number of animals that the building can hold.

A Hay Hopper is one of the items that come with the basic Coop. It allows you to access all your hay stored in the Silos on your farm.

An Incubator is added when you upgrade a Coop to a Big Coop. If you place Eggs in this Incubator, it’ll hatch them into the associated animal.

The final upgrade you’ll unlock — when you upgrade to a Deluxe Coop — is an Autofeed System. This means that, instead of having to go into each coop and place Hay on the Feeding Bench, Hay will be dispersed automatically as long as there’s enough in your Silos.

Storage Options

Inside Farm Buildings

Kegs can be stored in farm buildings.

A Shed, optimally filled with kegs, holds 67 of them, while occupying only 21 tiles of land. An upgraded Big Shed, optimally filled, holds 137 kegs on the same land space. A Barn, however, is cheaper, and holds 90 kegs on 28 tiles of land. The Deluxe Barn increases building costs considerably, but has so far been shown to be able to fit 136 kegs on the same land space as the initial Barn. Coops are cheaper still, but smaller, permitting fewer kegs per tile of external farmland used. Cabins are the cheapest initially, occupy the smallest land area of 15 tiles, but can only hold 42 kegs without upgrades, assuming the cabin is unclaimed and the parsnips and bed must remain. The first level of upgraded cabin can hold 113 kegs at a lower cost than any other option. While the second upgrade significantly raises costs, 351 kegs can be stored in a fully renovated cabin, allowing the largest number of kegs per external farmland used.

How to Play Multiplayer in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley draws a distinction between single player and multiplayer farms, meaning that you can’t just invite players into your save file without converting it into a multiplayer one. Of course, you can always start a new Co-op farm from the ground up, done by selecting «Co-op» from the main menu and choosing «Host». You’ll essentially start a new game, one that you can then invite players into. You’ll also have the option to choose how many cabins there are in your farm, which corresponds to how many players you can have in the game. Four cabins means up to four players.

It’s important to remember that, depending on your platform, you might need a subscription service. Players on PC won’t need to worry about such things, but if you’re playing from a console, you’ll need either PS Plus, Xbox Live Gold, or a Nintendo Switch Online account.

Once the farm is set up and you’re hosting a game, you can invite other players in as you would with any multiplayer game (assuming they also own copies of Stardew Valley).

How to Play Multiplayer on a Singleplayer Farm

If you started a game on your own but want to invite other players, you can do so once you’ve built new cabins for them. Go see Robin the Carpenter, and she’ll offer to build or demolish cabins for you. This is a cheap process, costing 100g each.

Can I Allow Another Player to Host My Farm?

If you want to transfer a farm to another player and essentially make them the owner, then bad news: that’s currently impossible without modding the game substantially. Farms are stored on the owner’s computer/console, all you do when you invite other players is let them temporarily into your world. The game even refers to invited players as «farmhands.» Still, this means the owner can go into their farm at any time, regardless of whether other players are around.

How to Play Local Multiplayer on Stardew Valley

If you want to play couch co-op, that’s currently available only for the Nintendo Switch port, with no foreseeable updates to the other platforms. There’s also no split-screen option, meaning both players will need their own Nintendo Switch and copy of the game. You just need to select Local Communication instead of Online Communication when selecting Co-op in the main menu.

Does Stardew Valley Have Cross-Play Multiplayer?

Happiness And Friendship

Happiness and Friendship are both stats that have an effect on the quality of items your animal will produce. The happier they are and the better friends with you they are, the better items you’ll receive.

Your Friendship with an animal will be on a scale from 0 to 1000, but it appears as a scale of five hearts when interacting with the animal. One half-heart is equal to 100 friendship points.

Actions That Affect Friendship:

• Petting The Animal: +15
• Milking Or Shearing: +5
• Eating Grass Outdoors: +8
• Not Being Fed: -20
• Trapped Outside At Night: -20
• Not Petted: -5 to -10

Happiness, on the other hand, can be between 0 and 255. The Happiness of an animal is also checked by interacting with them and viewing their menu; it’s detailed by the little blurb.

• Mood is between 200 and 255: «<Animal Name> looks really happy today!»
• Mood is between 30 and 200: «<Animal Name> looks fine.»
• Mood is between 0 and 30: «<Animal Name> looks sad.»

Actions That Affect Happiness:

• Eating Grass Outside: mood automatically set to 255
• Petting The Animal: +32 to +36
• Feeding The Animal: +4 to +16
• In Winter, The Animal’s Home Has A Heater And Their Mood Is Already Above 150: +4 to +8 every ten minutes after 6 pm that the player is awake
• If The Animal Is Outside Between 6 pm and 7 pm And Their Mood Is Already Belove 150: +4 to +8 every ten minutes
• Animal Is Outside In The Rain Or In Winter: -4 to -8 every ten minutes

All animals need to be fed daily. If they aren’t fed, that day will not count towards producing their item.

You’ll usually feed animals with Hay on their Feeding Bench, so keep an eye on your Hay supplies to make sure you don’t run out. However, animals can also eat grass that’s growing on your farm. For them to do this, you’ll need to open the door to allow them to roam outside and make sure that the grass is near to their Coop. Just because there’s grass outside that they could eat doesn’t mean that they will eat it — especially if it’s too far from the Coop. Allowing them to eat grass rather than Hay helps to improve their happiness level.

There are a few occasions when an animal doesn’t need to be fed:

• The first day they’re alive (either the day that they hatch or the day that you bought them from Marnie)
• On all festival days (the only exception to this is the Night Market, which is a three-day event that only occurs at night)

Leaving Them Outside

It’s possible to lock your animal out of the Coop by closing the Coop’s door before it has returned home. If this happens, they will automatically be grumpy the next day. There’s also a small chance they may be attacked in the night — in this case, they’ll be lost to you for good.

Tips for starting a co-op farm in Stardew Valley

Here are some tips to help you get the best out of your Stardew Valley co-op farm.

Map: the Four Corners map is generally the best to choose for multiple players, as it was specifically designed with multiplayer in mind. Though it can be used in single player mode, the layout consists of four quadrants, perfect to house individual cabins. Each quadrant offers a small pond and an area for perks from other farm maps. The map also has a larger pond, where you can draw water. This presents a much easier layout that will help you separate your grounds and share out responsibilities, while still keeping you close and encouraging you to work together.

Cabins: each farm can have up to three cabins, in addition to the base farmhouse. As mentioned above, every player must have a cabin in order to join. If you don’t start your farm with all three cabins, don’t worry – you can get Robin to build additional cabins for 100g each. Luckily, cabin building is instant, so your friends can join straight away. The host player is the only one with the power to demolish a cabin, which will remove the occupant from the game and put all of their possessions into a chest, situated where the cabin once was. Each cabin can be upgraded by its occupant alone, by using the carpenter’s shop. Upgrading a cabin gives it an identical interior to an upgraded farmhouse, so you and your pals can all live in the lap of luxury.

Profit margins: these are chosen when you create a new game, and reduce the profit you make off specific goods by 25%, 50%, 75%, or you can leave it at the default of 100%. These are intended to balance the economy a little as, naturally, with the extra hands on your farm you are bound to be rolling in the cash. Lowering the profit margin makes it much more difficult to make gold, as well as increasing the purchasing prices for certain items such as seeds, sugar, wheat flour, and rice. По ходу развития дружбы для каждого персонажа раскрывается маленькая сюжетная линия, позволяющая лучше познакомиться с его личностью. С молодыми неженатыми/незамужними персонажами можно, прокачав дружбу на максимум, перейти к романтическим отношениям и построить семью.

Формально на игру отводится два внутриигровых года, по завершению которых персонажу игрока во сне является покойный дедушка и оценивает его успехи. Учитывается как хозяйственная эффективность, так и социализация, и даже отношение питомца. Однако на этом игра не заканчивается, и продолжать можно пока не надоест. Можно и получить переоценку, если оценка была не максимальной. После обновления с новой локацией и прочими плюшками можно получить полноценную концовку с титрами, но для этого надо выполнить все требования для Идеала, ака пройти игру на «100%». После конечной катсцены игру всё ещё можно продолжить.
