Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best DPS class in PvP in Shadowlands
(FotM)?
You can decide for yourself by looking at the list above. In
general, the Top 5 Classes should be a reasonable choice if you’re looking for the
optimal PvP performance or so called «Flavor of the Month» class. But don’t be
disappointed if at this stage your class
isn’t high-ranking – if you know what you’re doing you will succeed with any
class.
How often does this Ranking get updated?
We are well aware that there is no use for outdated information. So
that is why we monitor these numbers extensively every day just to make sure they’re
precise and we always adjust them if anything changes. You can see the dates of both
events right at the top of this page.
Are lower-ranked classes unviable?
Not necessarily. These types of rankings are supposed to demonstrate
prevalent patterns, however in real in-game situations countless conditions may
affect the outcome.
Lucky Block
This is a great mod for putting a cool spin on the PvP format, allowing for a lot of fun and different situations and outcomes
How Lucky Block Makes the Game Fun:
- Adds in lucky blocks to the game that has a random effect when opened, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Challenge friends to a PvP battle where you can only use items gotten from these blocks for a fun challenge
- You can get just about anything from these blocks, so every fight is sure to be different. Diamonds, weapons, spawn eggs, bedrock, the combat possibilities are nearly endless

What Weapon Pairing Is Best For The Great Axe?
This is where the build-crafting in New World really comes into its own. You have so many options for weapon combinations that it can sometimes be tricky to know which is going to work best for your build.
- Great Axe And Sword — This is a more tanky option for a PVP build. We’ve actually included this in our best tank builds in New World. You have the defensive capabilities of the Sword’s defender perk alongside the massive damage of the Great Axe. Deadly.
- Great Axe and War Hammer — Big swinger, we like to call this one. This is all about hitting hard and fast, but you might find yourself a bit of a target in PVP. As a sidenote, the War Hammer is currently bugged in the open beta. This build works, arguably, better for PVE.
- Great Axe And Hatchet Build — This build relies on the ranged capabilities of the Hatchet. Picking up the various throwing abilities gives you a bit of versatility in one v ones. Rending Throw, in particular, can be devastating to weaken your opponent before going in with your Great Axe.
Here are some more of our weapon build guides for more specific info on the weapons:

Witchery
Witchery is all about magic and includes a plethora of magical combat options that are great for PvP
How Witchery Makes the Game Fun:
- Allows the player to create a variety of impactful potions, such as potions of ice that spawn huge amounts of snow and ice and potions of fire that turns the environment into a fiery hellscape
- Like any good witch, you’ll need a familiar to do your bidding. Witchery adds in the ability to create familiars such as winged monkeys that can be ordered to pick up other players and bring them back to a designated location, which is perfect for bringing your foe right into a trap

Best PVP Weapons So Far In New World
via Amazon
Given that the game is currently in Open Beta, and has seen multiple tweaks, changes, and balance updates over the years, the meta looks set to change fairly regularly. Especially before the release of the game.
However, based on both the Closed Beta and Open Beta, it’s clear there are some standout weapons for PVP.
- Great Axe
- Rapier
- Hatchet
- Fire Staff
These weapons, so far, have proven deadly. It’s odd not to see more ranged weapons on this list, but that’s likely because most players prefer to get up close and personal to deal damage.
There may be more ranged weapons in a more mature meta of the game, because as it stands if a player doesn’t want to fight they can just run away from an open-world PVP fight. Ranged weapons are useful if you’re chasing someone sprinting off toward the nearest town.
Electroblobs Wizardry
This is the mod you want if you want a fully realized magic battle between wizards, it has everything you could ever want and every spell possible to make an amazingly magical battle
How Electroblobs Wizardry Makes the Game Fun:
- Allows you to fully channel the elements into an enormous amount of powerful attacks that can be devastating if leveled up enough
- Also includes some other big damage spells like arcane missiles and spells that allow you to levitate, heal, and control time itself

Damage Indicators
While pretty simple, Damage Indicators is a fantastic utility mod that can give you some much-needed information while fighting your friends
How Damage Indicators Makes the Game Fun:
- Gives you a HUD that tells you the max health that an entity has and how much health they are missing. This is great for PvP because you can see how close you are to killing them, information that could impact your next move
- Also tells you how much damage you deal with each swing, so you can get a feel for how fast or slow it will take to defeat your opponent

Draconic Evolution
This is the mod to use if you’re looking to completely ignore balance and have an overpowered and crazy fight with some friends
How Draconic Evolution Makes the Game Fun:
- Adds in some super crazy and overpowered items such as armor that makes you borderline invincible and weapons that can three-shot the Ender Dragon. It’s far from balanced, but it is fun to fight with a mod that’s so blatantly strong
- Also includes some other really fun and broken effects, such as being able to supercharge shields and weapons to somehow make them even stronger than they already are

We use our in-house custom formula to calculate these rankings — its focus is on classes and specs who
are most successful in high-rated PvP (eg. 2600+ for 3v3). Then we analyze how often does a certain
class/spec occur at high ratings and those who achieve the highest ratings get bonus points.
Although these metrics have always been rather general trends than the rule of thumb, you can still
use them to understand who is the Top DPS in WoW PvP today.

Great Axe PVP Build
Slow and cumbersome? Nope. The Great Axe is vicious. It deals massive damage, has some decent sustain, and its charge ability provides that extra bit of mobility you need in a fight.
Best Masteries For The Great Axe In PVP
The Reaper tree. That’s it. That’s the guide. No, really, the Reaper tree is ideal for PVP.
- Pick up the Charge, Reap, and Execute masteries.
- Charge is a gap-closer or can be used to escape from a tricky situation.
- Reap is one of your main sources of damage, but also for sustainability. Its Hunger passive restores your HP.
- Execute acts as your finisher. This ability deals 200 percent weapon damage in one hit, enough to snag a kill.
Best Armor For Great Axe PVP Build
Like the weapons, armor has received its own tweaks and balance changes over the last few months. As it stands, you want to balance out both Heavy and Light armor for your PVP tanky Great Axe Build.
- Heavy Helmet and Heavy Chest are enough to provide you with decent damage reduction and defensive stats.
- Light Boots, Pants, and Gloves are recommended to balance out your cumbersome weight for PVP. You’re basically aiming for a medium build for some dodge mobility during one-on-ones.
