Achievements (plants vs. zombies: garden warfare 2)

Role

The zombies are «semi-mindless», decaying corpses that have won the Battle for Suburbia against the plants. The zombies have taken over Suburbia and renamed it Zomburbia. The zombies’ leader, the brilliant Dr. Zomboss, managed to beat the plants by contacting his future self and bringing back advanced Z-Tech from the future, including the extremely powerful Z-Mech that gave the zombies the advantage over the plants. The zombies must now try to defend their newly-claimed homeland from the plants. Zombies have made significant advancements in science, construction, and especially robotics, likely thanks to their genius ruler Dr. Zomboss, and also likely thanks to the tech from the future. There are many new robots that can aid the zombies in their fight against the plants, such as Bots like the Gatling Bot, the Uplink Bot, and Dr. Heals, and mobile combat robots such as the Robo-Zombie.

The zombies are playable in Team Vanquish and Gardens & Graveyards as an attacking role, however they take a defending role in Graveyard Ops and Herbal Assault when the plants try to invade their new home. The zombies can also summon Spawnable Zombies to aid them in battle, while also being able to place all-new Bots, which can be used to defend their tombstones.

Unused Bosses

In the game’s files, there are multiple unused bosses that can be found. Most of them have very little functionality, but others do. Some, such as Zombot, only have an icon. All of the bosses have names as well.

Imitater

Imitater is an unused plant Boss Hunt boss. It was originally intended to appear in the story missions of the game, but it is unknown where at in the story he would’ve appeared. He has leftover bait, which is the Stick of Butter. It has the unique ability to transform into various zombie bosses.

Unlike other games, the characters it transforms into keep the Imitater’s color scheme, face paint, and beret.

Pup and Wolf

A Z-Mech that is also identified as a boss. It comes with its own Imp called Renegade Imp in the coding. It was originally intended to appear in story Boss Hunts. Its bait was the Cyber Jerky. It would have had 500 health and had 3 abilities:

  • Cluster Cannons: Same effect as the Missile Madness of the regular Z-Mech, seems to home in a lot more.
  • Smokey Motors: It would summon an airstrike the rains down 5 Zombie Stink Clouds.
  • Gravity Missile: It would launch 5 Gravity Grenades at its target(s).

Super Chili Bean

Unused Variation of the Super Bean, in a similar fashion to Giga Gargantuar. It was originally intended to appear in story Boss Hunts similar to other bosses. Its bait was a bottle of hot sauce. Its attacks have red effects instead of blue effects. Has an icon as well. He has his own abilities as well, and they are:

  • Chili Laserbean — A more powerful version of Super Bean’s Laserbean ability.
  • Chili Teleport — A teleport ability, although it does not actually work due to the boss’ unfinished nature.
  • Explosive Teleport — A teleport ability that also launches Chili Bean Bombs.
  • Chili Warp — Its warp ability, similar to Super Bean’s warp ability.
  • Chili Charge — Similar to Super Bean’s Overbean ability, except it does way more damage.
  • Chili Twirl — Very unfinished, seems to do no damage at all.

His bait description is:

Super Hot. Super Hot. Super Hot.

Trivia

  • The title «Garden Warfare» parodies Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
  • Sunflower now has offensive capabilities and the mushrooms are no longer nocturnal, although a few of them are stronger at nighttime maps.
  • Coincidentally, the four main plant classes are on the loading screen of the original Plants vs. Zombies.
  • This is the first game where the Sunflower is an offensive plant.
  • This game, its sequel and Plants vs. Zombies Heroes are the only games where the zombies do not attempt to eat your brains.
  • Every Imp in the game utilizes an ability to explode on contact with a player or surface.
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare for PC was free to play from 8/15/2014 to 8/25/2014 on Origin.
  • In the official E3 trailer, Sunflower’s Sunbeam and Engineer’s Sonic Grenade look different than the ones in-game.
  • This is the second game where the player can play as the zombies, the first being I, Zombie from Plants vs. Zombies.
  • In nighttime maps, if one looks at the moon, they can see a Zombie (sometimes Dr. Zomboss’) face.

Unused Bosses

Imitator

Imitator is an unused Boss hunt. Its AI is unfinished and buggy.
It will roam the map attacking zombies and will randomly burrow and spawn multiple zombies; when that happens, it will burrow into the ground and summon an imitated Zen Sensei, Disco Zombie, Gargantuar, or Baron von Bats. Once the imitated boss is vanquished, Imitator will pop back up to continue fighting. It has tags for boss hunt events, similarly to other boss hunts. According to Jeff Shaw (the Lead Level Designer on Plants Vs Zombies: Battle For Neighborville, Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 1 and 2, and Star Wars: Battlefront 2) on Twitter, Imitator was cut due to how quickly expensive it became while building it.

The boss icon for the Imitator

Super Chili Bean

Super Chili Bean is an unused Boss Hunt version of Super Bean. All of its attacks are much stronger, and it has a 500-health Shield.
Super Chili Bean also has a unique Overbean mode. Instead of constantly firing a single eye laser, it rapidly fires two devastating eye lasers at the Zombies. These lasers are strong enough to kill any playable Zombie in less than two seconds.

The boss icon for the Super Chili Bean

Renegade Imp

Renegade Imp is an unfinished version of Imp; however, it would not have been a variant. Recently, multiple files were found that refer to it being a Backyard-related enemy, but it also has files referring to it as a boss hunt, so its true original purpose is seemingly unknown. It uses a duplicated version of the Imp Blasters with messed-up sound effects, and will summon its Mech repeatedly. This Mech is very powerful, and like Super Chili Bean, it can easily kill any playable Plant. The Mech has a stronger version of Chain Laser, a Warp, a stronger version of Missile Madness, Z-Mech’s Foot Stomp, an airstrike of Stink Clouds, and multiple Gravity Grenades. It would have been lured by “Cyber Jerky”, and strings for this still exist, with one of them saying “Cyber Jerky becomes lean”.

Zombot

Zombot was planned to appear in Garden Ops as a boss; it was originally supposed to appear in the first Garden Warfare game, as seen in E3 2013 footage. If spawned, the Zombot is stuck in a glitched pose below the ground. A Zombot does occasionally walk around and attacks players in the Z-Tech Factories map, but isn’t considered a boss. By replacing the Robo-Zombie’s model, it’s mesh can be seen well, though.

Beetboxer

An unused Beet boss that was going to have its own Boss Hunt. It has bait data and strings in the launch build of the game.

The boss icon for the Beetboxer

Orange Juice Robot

A boss that seemingly was scrapped very early in development. It has next to no data in the final build, but in the first version of the game it has a good bit of data left. There are bait strings, bait (which would have been a “balanced breakfast”), wave data (which, when activated, spawns default Citrons), and boss spawn data (which, when activated, spawns a Torchwood). Although it was scrapped, it did make a appearance in the black hoarse comics.

The boss icon for the Orange Juice Robot

Crab Robot

Another Boss Hunt boss that was likely scrapped early on. The only data it has is some text, two icons, animation/attack names, and some spawndata. Also, the player was going to lure it in with… swimming trunks.

The icon for the Crab Robot

Story Mode Sasquatch

While the Sasquatch boss was fought occasionally via temporary Boss Hunt events, it would seem he would originally be fought in Story Mode. His bait would’ve originally been a Soup Can, which has both an icon and model leftover in earlier versions of the game. The boss itself is fairly similar to the boss hunt found in the final game, though it seems the Sasquatch summoned healing burgers more often, and dug underground slightly more often as well, usually when he is attacked.

Early Sasquatch Hunt

The Sasquatch boss encountered in Boss Hunt was originally intended to appear in the story mode Boss Hunts. In older versions of the game, his hunt was playable on other maps, although quite unfinished. His original bait was a Soup Can, which has a model and icon. There is also text present for the unfinished hunt. When played in earlier versions, the Sasquatch will spawn, but players will be sent into a loop of his Healing Burgers phase after damaging him due to it being unfinished.

Strategies

With

The Engineer’s primary weapon functions similar to the Peashooter except the fact that it fires slightly slower, arcs over distances, has limited range but has more ammo. Equipped with the Jackhammer for quick movement, critical impact damage with the Concrete Launcher, and the Sonic Bombs to stun enemies, the Engineer can be very dangerous in a one-on-one fight. The main target of the Engineer is the Chomper due to him having a way to counter their Burrow ability (Sonic Grenade) and being immune to instant death when on the Jackhammer. He has the Zombot Drone which can be devastating due to its Cone Strike, which can vanquish quite a few plants at a time and is useful for softening up the defenses around a garden for capture in Suburbination and Gardens & Graveyards. It is worth a mention about his suppressive abilities. Because of the Concrete Launcher’s splash damage, it can be used to phase out enemies and push them back because they want to move out of the way of damage. Furthermore, by building teleporters the Engineer can create very useful shortcuts for its teammates. He can also create Zombot Turrets to protect the teleporters that can be upgraded up to Mark III. On the whole, it is much more suited to riding from teleporter to teleporter to support the team and/or rushing in to get quick kills. Although the teleporter is able to be destroyed and guarded by plants most of the time, so it’s advised to bring a group of zombies to build and protect the teleporter.

Tips

  • Just like the Peashooter, you do not need to land direct hits to do damage to enemies since the Concrete Launcher does splash damage.
  • Sonic Grenade can be used offensively and defensively. Never be afraid to use it in any situation whether it is vanquishing a target or running away from a plant.
  • Try circle-strafing around a target when you are in an attempt to vanquish them. You may not score direct hits but you can avoid damage whilst doing small amounts of it back with your splash damage.
  • If there are multiple Chompers defending the garden, lure them into the range of the Sonic Grenade to stun all the burrowing Chompers then, move on to vanquish them.
  • You don’t need to land head shots to get critical hits. (Unless playing as a variant with more accurate weapons such as the Mechanic, the Painter, or AC Perry)

The Cactus is probably the best choice to counter the Engineer due to her superior range over the Concrete Launcher. She has enough power to kill the Engineer in a few hits, the Garlic Drone and Artichoke Drone to counter his drones, and finally Tallnut Battlement and Iron Maiden for protection. Also, the Sunflower can be useful because she can avoid the Concrete Launcher’s shots more easily with her elevated movement speed, heal off any damage then hit him hard at a range with the Sunbeam. Peashooters can use Hyper offensively to attack the Engineer or defensively to get up to high vantage points and render the Concrete Launcher almost useless, while Chili Bean Bombs and Pea Gatling can be used to destroy both drones and teleporters. The Engineer is also a larger target with no increase in health, making him easier to hit.

Strategies

Fighting With Torchwood

Torchwood is the tankiest character in the game (excluding the Z-Mechs and the Infinity Robots). He also plays a role very similar to that of the All-Star’s. Torchwood shines when he is closer to the opponent as his abilities (notably Blazin’ Blast) are a lot more effective and in some cases can only be used at close range.

However, using Smoldering Madness gives you good ranged firepower, so if you need to be in a long-ranged encounter, use this ability. While Torchwood may have more health than any other playable character in the game, he is relatively slow and possesses the largest hitbox in the game of the Plants, making him very easy to hit.

If you feel that you are in danger, activate your Leaf Shield to temporarily reduce incoming damage. With the Leaf Shield active, Torchwood is able to tank a single ZPG (leaving him with 150 HP left). Blazin’ Blast any Zombies that get too close (for example, the Scientist, Super Brainz and the Imp).

Make sure to time your Blazin’ Blasts correctly as if you activate it too early, it can completely miss. On the other hand, when used well, it can quickly win you the fight.

When on the attack, activate your Smoldering Madness and push forward. While Smoldering is active, light up as many zombies in the area. Concentrate your fire on the big Zombies, then frequently spray at the weaker ones. This forces zombies into cover while sometimes even vanquishing them. Note that you cannot activate Leaf Shield while Smoldering Madness is active. Because of this, make sure you have plenty of health before using it.

Try not to stray too far from other plants as Torchwood is very weak on his own. Hanging around Sunflowers is a good idea, as they can keep you alive.

Fighting Against Torchwood

Seeing that Torchwood has the most health out of all the playable characters on the plant side (excluding the Junkasaurus), you should try to avoid one on one fights with him. Instead, team up against him, preferably in an area where he cannot reach you with Blazin’ Blast.

His large hitbox makes him very easy to hit with ZPGs and Super Ultra Balls. If you see one using Leaf Shield or Smoldering Madness, try to immobilize it as fast as possible.

The Imp’s Gravity Grenade is great for stopping a Torchwood in his tracks, as it lifts him into the air for everyone to shoot at. All Ice variants of Zombies are very effective against Torchwood. Overall, it is imperative to keep your distance.

Trivia

General

  • He bears a striking resemblance to the Lightning Gun Zombie from Sky City in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2

He also bears some resemblances to the Rocket Zombie in Plants vs. Zombies Adventures.

    .

  • Scientist creates his own technology, that Dr. Zomboss

This effectively means that the Scientist’s primary weapon, as well as all his ability items, are made by the Scientist himself.

    patents.

  • The Scientist is one of the three zombies which starts with their Y/2/Triangle button ability, the other being the Foot Soldier and the All-Star.
  • In Garden Ops, he has a special wave called For Science where he and all of his variants (except for Dr. Chester) appear.
  • When the player is standing on top of a Heal Station, burrowing Chompers cannot always eat them and sometimes, they can. It is unknown whether or not this is a glitch or just game mechanics. This works better with the Armored Heal Station due to it being larger than the default.
  • When a Scientist character obtains a damage upgrade, the weapon model will change to appear more advanced.

Specific to Garden Warfare

  • He has the most abilities out of all characters with a total of nine abilities.
  • The Scientist’s Goo Blaster used to deal up to 83 critical damage at close range, but was changed in the Tactical Taco Party DLC.
    • The changes made in the DLC are to ensure it never exceeds 73 critical damage due to the weapon «being stronger than intended.»

The Scientist’s long range non-critical damage was also reduced from 33 to 22.

Specific to Garden Warfare 2

  • He can now also heal zombie bosses (Gargantuar, Giga Gargantuar, Mech Gargantuar, Disco Zombie, Yeti Zombie). However, since the player cannot see their HP on display, like with the other zombies, the player use the Heal Beam of Science, and the boss will have +2 HP constantly healing it. The player would know once the boss is fully healed if there is no more +2 HP healing.
    • This same concept also applies to the Sunflower.
    • If the Scientist heals a Mech Gargantuar, the player will only heal him by 1 HP instead of 2.
  • He can now revive all zombies at 100% of HP from 50% of health.
  • His irises are a lot bigger. This is because of the goggles he wears producing a magnifying effect, making his eyes look bigger than normal.
  • He is one of the two classes in Garden Warfare to have a Legendary variant in the sequel, the other being the Chomper.
  • All Scientist variants (excluding Dr. Chester

When equipping a Scientist variant’s weapon skin, then exiting the Customization Booth, it will say the same primary weapon name and the shooting particles of it, despite the weapon skin name.

) have special weapon skin names that are considered different Scientist blaster names («Crocophin Blaster» is an examples), as some are Rare appearances and some are Super Rare appearances.

Oddities

In the Great White North stage, two out-of-bounds gravestones can be seen off the map.

(Source: Hey1mJay)

Upgradable Turrets

In the Wall-Nut Hills stage, near each base, the Defender Bot that Engineers can build are actually leftover Zombot Turrets from Garden Warfare 1! However, when it’s upgraded to tier 2, becomes a broken and glitch-prone tier 3 bot.

Crazy Dave

In every scene in which the Van is flying, looking closely into the window can show that it is none other than Crazy Dave piloting it! This is hard to see, however.

Zombopolis Trains

In the Zombopolis map, the trains found in the junkyard travel much further out of bounds than one would expect.

Strategies

With

The Imp is a glass cannon in every sense of the phrase- he does a lot of damage, but he can’t take damage very well. As the Imp, make sure you keep moving and jumping whilst shooting. The Imp’s low health makes it very easy for plants to vanquish you. A good way to get Vanquishes is to ambush your target from behind and avoid fighting large groups of plants. If you accidentally start a skirmish with a group of plants, use Impkata while trying to find an escape.

As an Imp, Citrons will always be your worst nightmare. Citron has many abilities that can render Imp’s abilities useless. If you want to fight a Citron, take caution of Spin Dash, as it can vanquish you if you have less than 50 health. Double jump as the Citron is going to smash into you. Alternatively, Gravity Grenade them if they are in Ball Form, as they are unable to fight back,

Use Gravity Grenade if you want to set up a group of large plants into one bunch. The best time to execute a Gravity Grenade is near other zombies, as they will be able to help defeat the captured plants. Some classes like Foot Soldier or Super Brainz can easily use some of their abilities to quickly Vanquish the plants in this state. Gravity Grenade can also be used defensively to stop a plant from chasing you, but only use this strategy when in grave danger. Chompers (with the exception of the Yeti Chomper) are helpless when caught by a Gravity Grenade as long as you stay out of their bite range.

While the Imp can deal a lot of damage very quickly, the Imp suffers from great recoil. When firing your primary weapon, your shots will quickly raise in elevation. This makes it much harder to hit plants, especially since with no control, the Imp’s shots are extremely inaccurate. Learning to control the Imp’s recoil is crucial for Imps to deal damage efficiently.

Against

The Imp is for certain a deadly character, but he’s far from unbeatable, especially without his Z-Mech. Characters such as the Peashooter are effective against the Imp because of his splash damage, making hits on an Imp easier to land.
Cacti may have a harder time hitting the Imp as he is among the smallest characters in the game, but most of their shots should be enough to take a good chunk off his health as long as his mech isn’t in play.

Ideally, using crowd-control abilities such as EMPeach or Time Snare render the Imps mobility useless, allowing any teammate to land free hits.

Chomper’s Goop is also very effective at immobilizing an Imp. You shouldn’t need to outright eat them unless you’re playing as Disco Chomper, who relies on eating Zombies to activate Disco Fever.
