Victim Locations[]

Victim #1

The first victim is actually part of the opening tutorial, Chapter 1: Return, so you can’t miss him. He’ll need a First Aid Kit which is just back in the crevasse on Arbor Street.

Victim #2

When you are in the mall with Mei, at the top of the elevator shaft on the 5th floor, you’ll find an inhaler. Climb down the elevator shaft after that and you’ll find the old man who needs it.

Victim #3

While climbing the Skyscraper to retrieve the medicine from the crate that is stuck, you’ll find a man who needs a first aid kit inside the building, just after you swing across using the hook.

Victim #4

After you give Mei the medicine and you are leaving through the basement of The Mall, you will come across two men arguing and a woman asking for help. Point your gun at the aggressive man to save the others. No items are needed.

Victim #5

The first time you enter the subway tracks, head to the far end of the tracks where it becomes a dead-end. In the room there, kill the two cannibals and unlock the prisoners to rescue them.

Victim #6

Down in the sewers, still with Mei on your back, you’ll find a woman on the other side of the bars who needs 2 cans of food. If the player gives food to Victim 6, upon returning to the spot where she was (while escorting Linda to Henry’s apartment), the victim will have hung herself.

Victim #7

Down the street from Henry’s apartment you can climb across a building to reach the next victim, who you can see wandering around outside of the building from the street. Once you get across he will want five items (Meat, Inhaler, Food Cans, Fruit Cocktail, Soda cans). It’s worth it though as he gives you a shotgun in return.

Victim #8

Head south from Henry’s place and stick to the right. You will find a wooden ramp with a ladder, and a victim who needs a cigarette at the top.

Victim #9

After giving the man a cigarette, keep heading straight, back towards the subway tracks, and you’ll find a woman who says she is trapped, but once you get too close a small gang will pop out and try to kill you. Once you kill them, shoot her hand-cuffs off and you’re done.

Victim #10

After you remove the handcuffs from the girl, turn around and drop down to the street level and head to your left, and you will find a ladder leading up the building. Up here you will find a lady in need of a Tomato. If you haven’t found one yet, you will find a tomato after saving victim #19 and you can come back to this victim later.

Victim #11

The survivor finds a battery.

On your way to the ship, after you head down to the rubble, head to the far end of that road and you’ll find a victim trapped who needs your help to get out. You will need a Battery for this.

Victim #12

On the ship, you will find stairs leading under the ship deck. Down there you will find a victim about to be killed. Kill his attacker and then give him two Painkillers.

Victim #13

On the ship, head to the end on the right, and you’ll hear a man asking for help. You have to climb over the edge of the ship at the “Quarantine – Keep Out” sign and come back up behind it. Enter the room and give him Rehydration Salts.

Victim #14

After you leave the ship, on your way back to Henry’s with the transmitter, you’ll find an elderly couple on the roof who want a bottle of wine.

Victim #15

When you enter the Blue Hotel, the first room you can enter on the 1st floor should have two women in need of a first aid kit.

Victim #16

On the 4th floor of the hotel, keep to your left and you should find a room where you can see into the room next to you and a man is about to rape a woman. Kill him with your Bow and she will open the door to her, giving you the retry.

Victim #17

When you reach the basement of the Hotel with Linda, go left after entering the parking garage and you’ll find a closed-door and a woman coughing behind it. Shoot your bow at it and wait a minute until they open the door. Once they open it, shoot the thug and then shoot the woman’s handcuffs off.

Victim #18

Before you walk across the board to get to the building to set the fireworks off, climb down the giant hole and follow the pipe to give the man a first-aid kit.

Victim #19

Inside the tower where you set the fireworks off and fix the elevator, right outside of the elevator, take a right past the bathroom and you’ll find a woman lying on a bed in need of rehydration salts. You will also find the tomato needed for victim #10.

Victim #20

Once you enter the Pier, head straight and you’ll see a man lying on the ground behind the fence. Climb over and give him the first aid kit that’s right behind him.

Early Life

Mei is too young to remember much of the world prior to The Event. She refers to the time before it as «before stuff got so broken».

The Event

Protected by her mother, Linda, Mei remained at her father’s side when he was injured and unfit for travel. When he died, Mei and her mother were taken into the care of a man named Henry, who offered them food and shelter inside his apartment, presumably located on 3rd Ave and Crockett Street. Protected against the earthquakes and the ash cloud, Mei and her mother lived a relatively comfortable life in the post-apocalyptic city of Haventon.

Events of I Am Alive

During the events of the game, a sick Mei is separated from her mother (who is kidnapped by a gang of survivors) and forced to fend for herself for a time. When the girl encounters the Protagonist, she is wandering the streets calling for her mother. Upon realizing she was being watched, Mei flees. The Protagonist mistakes her for his daughter, Mary, and pursues her across the city into an alleyway where she is cornered by a gang. After she is rescued, Mei befriends the Protagonist who promises Henry that he will get her the mall before the dust storm settles in.

The Protagonist forms a bond with Mei, his interaction with the child highlighting his humanity and the family he strives to find. In a video he confesses that she reminds him of his daughter.

During their short time in the mall, the Protagonist discovers that Mei has a fever and goes to retrieve medicine for her. He is unable to travel with her, so he leaves her in the «safe place» on the fourth level of the mall where she is protected from harm. When he returns, he administers the medicine and allows her to sleep until her fever goes down. Upon hearing gunshots inside the mall, they resume their journey, traveling through the subway system back to Henry’s apartment.

The Protagonist carries Mei on his back, roped securely in place. He is still able to scale obstacles and confront enemies who threaten to harm them. When forced into a combat situation, Mei will scream if the Protagonist is injured (or looses his grip on a ledge), though she sustains no damage herself. However, Mei can die along with the Protagonist if he falls from a great height.

When the Protagonist obtains a radio transmitter from a marooned ship within the city, he sets out to find Mei’s mother. He locates her in a hotel where female survivors are being held captive and sexually abused and rescues her. Linda and Mei are reunited and the group devise a plan of escape. While the Protagonist goes to set off fireworks atop the highest building above the ash cloud, Mei, her mother and Henry head off to the amusement park near the docks where rescue awaits them.

When the Protagonist arrives at the Pier 37 Amusement Park, a panicked Linda explains that she was separated from Mei when they were attacked by a gang that occupied the park. Henry went to find her, but never returned. She and the Protagonist split up to find Mei. The Protagonist finds the Mei hiding behind a locked gate, sitting on a bench. Elated that he found her, he and Mei head off to the boat where Linda is waiting for them.

Mei is visibly disappointed when the Protagonist chooses to stay behind, but she gives him her doll, citing that his daughter «might need it». The Protagonist thanks her for the gift and promises to tell his daughter where it came from. Linda and Mei are last seen aboard the boat before it sets sail for Port Siena.

Development

The game was first rumored to be in development in July 2008, when it was known that Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond was working on a new game, which was announced at E3 2008, along with a trailer. It was later revealed that Raymond was not working on the game. Development experienced various delays. The original developers, Darkworks, announced that it would not be working on it any longer due to a «mutual decision» and that the studio had other obligations, and that the game would be finished at Ubisoft Shanghai’s studio. On August 2009, various screenshots of an old build of the game were leaked onto the Internet. An announcement from Ubisoft indicated a release window between Q2 April 2010– Q2 March 2011. These dates passed with no new information, until June 2011 when a notification was published at the Australian classification website which indicated a possible release in the late summer of 2011.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said at the start of 2010 that the studio was «totally re-engineering the product.» Elias Toufexis is reported to have a major role in the game, playing a character known as Henry. In May 2011, Ubisoft cancelled a number of games, but it was revealed that I Am Alive and another Ubisoft title Beyond Good & Evil 2 were not among them, with Ubisoft stating that the cancelled games were unannounced games. On September 29, 2011, a new announcement trailer was released for the game with a release date of «this winter» at the end. On January 23, 2012, the developers announced on Facebook that the game would be available for Xbox 360 on March 7, 2012.

Ландшафт городов крайне изменился, а так же облака пыли начали скапливаться на улицах, делая невозможным нахождение на воздухе без защитных приспособлений. У главного героя есть семья. В момент нашествия он был в другом городе, который так же подвергся разрушению, но не такому серьёзному. Тот город, в котором находилась его жена и дочь, оказался эпицентром землетрясений. К счастью часть его уцелела. Но пыль, скопившаяся на улицах, сделала невозможным пребыванием на нижнем уровне. Если человек находился несколько минут на улице без маски, то он умирал за считанные минуты. Но даже маска не спасает, в ней можно было находиться вне зданий минут 15 максимум. Все выжившие пытались выбраться из города. Но наш бесстрашный герой готов окунуться в этот ад и найти свою семью, так как это самое ценное в его жизни. Ему предстоит взяться за оружие, так как пыль это не единственная опасность в этом городе.

Reception

At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the game received an average score of 72, based on 45 reviews, indicating «mixed to average reviews». At GameRankings, the game received an aggregated score of 73.81%, based on 26 reviews.

GameSpot gave it an 8, complaining that «The few unrealistic elements are a stark contrast to the engrossing world and only lessen the experience.» Eurogamer gave it an 8, commenting «What I Am Alive lacks in originality, though, it makes up for in execution.», praising the tone and gameplay. Several reviews praised the survival aspects of the game, commenting on the scarcity of resources and oppressive atmosphere. IGN gave a negative review, giving it a 4.5, citing outdated graphics and poor gameplay elements.

The game itself received fame on the Xbox Marketplace, as it placed 1st on the Top Ten Most Wanted Downloadable Content chart for March.
