Да, последний тип заданий был придуман отнюдь не Blizzard, ведь их StarCraft вышла лишь через год после AoE!

Последние ханы

Как уже было упомянуто выше, контента в Age of Empires 2 не просто много, а очень много. И теперь, с выходом Definitive Edition его стало еще больше. Ровно на одно расширение под названием «Последние ханы» (The Last Khans). Оно состоит из трех полноценных сюжетных кампаний, которые рассказывают историю четырех народов — болгар, литовцев, половцев и татар.

Как нетрудно догадаться, история строится на конфликте оседлой и кочевой цивилизации. Правда, по какой-то причине Литву обделили кампанией, так что они появляются только в качестве противников.

Сюжет The Last Khans простой и не претендует на историчность, однако фанатам серии он наверняка понравится. А вот новичкам тут придется туго — «Последние ханы» сложнее, чем стандартные кампании, так что пройти их без подготовки будет довольно трудно.

Мультиплеер Age of Empires: Definitive Edition

Авторы переиздания постарались сохранить оригинальный геймплей игры, но вот с мультиплеером у них другой подход. Вернее, с его организацией. Разработчики переписали сетевой код игры, так что игра теперь работает через сервис Xbox Live. Если кто не в курсе, то теперь эта штука работает не только на одноименной консоли, но и «вшита» в Windows 10.

Это особенно здорово, учитывая то, что сейчас запустить сетевой бой в Age of Empires без продолжительных танцев с бубном довольно проблематично. Так что можно проводить многочасовые баталии по сети с друзьями без каких-либо «заморочек», а это уже дорогого стоит! Сетевое лобби, кстати, тоже немного переделали, чтобы им было удобно пользоваться в современных реалиях.

Играть в мультиплеер Age of Empires: Definitive Edition может от 2 до 8 человек. И все бы хорошо, если бы непосредственно соединение не осуществлялось по модели Peer-to-Peer, то есть «от каждого к каждому». History[]

Ruyters were a light cavalry who used pistols as their primary weapon. These soldiers were known as «Riders,» and often carried several pistols with them — even having aids or servants whose job it was to carry extra pistols — because they wouldn’t have time to reload the weapons when in range. Short-range fire with pistols was often deadly, but even shots that were not immediately lethal usually killed due to infection or disease because of the state of medicine at the time. Ruyters were able to fire their relatively small arms while on the move and this mobility made them fierce combatants.Ruyters wore light armor and carried several sets of pistols. They were known to carry sabers and axes as sidearms for use when their complement of loaded pistols had been spent.

Их не так много, чтобы считать их наличие серьезным недостатком, но они есть.

Касаются они в основном удобства для игрока. Например, юнитов можно ставить в очередь производства «пачками» по 5 штук, если зажать клавишу Shift. А если построить здание для хранения определенного типа ресурсов, то человечки сами сообразят, что надо бы не ждать указаний от небожителя, а самим идти и добывать этот самый ресурс.

Впрочем, ничего серьезного по функционалу не «завезли». Никаких новых кнопок и режимов, только лишь небольшие детали, немного снижающие репетативность для современного геймера. Это хорошо, но каким-то образом разработчики проглядели серьезные ошибки в поиске пути юнитов. Проявляются они не так часто, но иногда юниты, идущие в одном отряде, могут разойтись в абсолютно разные стороны.

Происходит это в те моменты, когда на карте много естественных препятствий — гор, деревьев, небольших камней. Но иногда бывает так, что впереди идущий мечник может стать как раз таким «препятствием» для его товарища позади, и тогда тот предпринимает абсолютно гениальное решение совершить обход через весь экран. Ну или, в лучшем случае, просто врежется в спину товарищу и постоит чуть-чуть.

Tactics[]

Serjeants are a very peculiar infantry, as they are able to build (and repair) Donjons and can be trained in the Feudal Age, unlike any other unique unit. They can be seen as a variant of the Militia line with this peculiar quirk. Indeed, compared to a Man-at-Arms, a Serjeant in the Feudal Age has the same hit points, less attack and Line of Sight, and better melee and pierce armor. Still, Serjeants cost more than Men-at-Arms and need to be trained at a Donjon in the Feudal Age (which costs 175 Stone and 75 wood each, so it is a substantial investment).

Their ability to build Donjons enables Sicilians to perform a very peculiar strategy called Donjon Drop or Donjon Rush, and it can be done in the Feudal Age if the player has gathered stone beforehand (at least another 175 stone for making a second Donjon). For performing this, the player must go with few Villagers near an opponent’s settlement, create the first Donjon, and then start spawning Serjeants, which should also create more Donjons near the opponent, especially near their main Gold and Stone Mines and their main Lumber Camp. The building time of a Donjon is the same for Villagers and Serjeants, so the initial Villagers must return to gather resources. Also, Donjons can garrison 10 units, so this tactic can be supported with archers that will increase the number of arrows of a Donjon if garrisoned inside. With enough resources, a Donjon Drop can snowball quickly, as it does not need the assistance of villagers, unlike a Castle drop, except for the first Donjon.

Once the player reaches the Castle Age, Serjeants automatically gain +20 hit points (for a total of 65 HP), +3 attack (for a total of 8), +1 Melee armor, and +1 Pierce armor (for a total 3/3 armor). Compared to a Long Swordsman, a Serjeant in the Castle Age is much more resilient against arrowfire and melee attacks, thanks to the extra armor. Still, its attack is a bit weaker than the Long Swordsman, and its attack bonuses are inferior to Long Swordsmen. Its armor makes this unit more versatile than its Barracks counterpart, since it can be used to defend a location against different types of units (also, all Sicilian units have bonus armor vs attack bonuses, so infantry counters are less effective). After the Castle Age, Serjeants must be the infantry of choice for Sicilians, unless the player has a shortage of stone for making Castles or Donjons. However, the Militia line of infantry is still a better counter against Eagle Warriors and Buildings, so there are situations in which the player may focus more on the Militia line rather than Serjeants.

The Elite Serjeants in the Imperial Age continue the trend of being a better armored infantry with less attack than the Militia line. Elite Serjeants’ armor and movement speed sits on the middle ground between a Huskarl (which is highly specialized against arrowfire) and a Teutonic Knight (which is highly specialized against melee attack).

The Sicilian unique technology First Crusade brings a muster of 7 Serjeants from each Town Center (maximum 5 Town Centers). This technology can still be researched even if the player has reached maximum population and is highly useful for an emergency if the player needs to defend but doesn’t have enough troops. It can also be used to rapidly increase the player’s army for a Serjeant raid against an opponent.

Serjeants fare much better than most infantry against their counters, due to their high melee and pierce armor, as well as the reduced bonus damage taken, but there are some units that can deal with Serjeants pretty well without problem. High-melee armor units, such as Teutonic Knights and Boyars can counter Serjeants pretty well. Jaguar Warriors and Samurai can be devastating due to their attack bonuses. Leitis can also counter Serjeants, since their melee armor is useless against them.The Obuchs are in a similar situation. Since their attack removes armor, they will easily erase the advantage of the Serjeants. Despite having their bonus damage reduced, Cataphracts can still effectively deal with an army of Serjeants, due to the trample damage, and their bonus damage is still enormously high for Serjeants, and finally, Battle Elephants and War Elephants destroy them due to their very high hit points, attack and trample damage.

The Definitive Edition offers the campaigns from Age of Empires (including Reign of the Hittites from the demo) and The Rise of Rome (including First Punic War from the demo). Some scenarios were renamed, had gameplay changes, or included different descriptions and faction names.

Malay units speak (Melayu Kuno or Melayu Tua), an Austronesian language which includes several Sanskrit words.

Old Malay is spoken by the Shailendra dynasty of the Medang Kingdom and the Srivijaya Empire, and over time evolved into the modern Malay and Indonesian languages.

  • The Serjeant’s ability to build Donjons is similar to the building ability of Norse infantry units and Hersirs in Age of Mythology and several infantry units in Age of Empires III such as Janissaries and Sepoys after sending the Battlefield Construction card, as well as the Russian Musketeers after sending the National Redoubt card.
  • The Serjeant is the only unique unit that can be trained in the Feudal Age.
  • Serjeants are not affected by Treadmill Crane.
  • Serjeants can also be trained in the Feudal Age at Castles. This is not noticeable in most games since Castles are not available in the Feudal Age. This feature can be observed in Fortress and Regicide type maps and scenarios where the player starts with a Castle.
  • Conscription also affects Donjons, but not Kasbah.
  • Serjeants cannot assist in building, or repair non-Donjon buildings/units.
  • Converted Serjeants by other civilizations cannot build Donjons.

History[]

The Malay Archipelago is the world’s largest archipelago, consisting of more than 25,000 islands in present-day Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, East Timor, Malaysia and Singapore. To travel and colonize so many islands, the islanders developed sophisticated navigation and boat building skills beginning in 50,000 BC. From the first millennium AD, multiple port towns expanded into small kingdoms thanks to a profitable trade position between India and China. As a result of this interaction with India, these early states adopted many elements from Hinduism and Buddhism. During the Middle Ages, some port cities managed to conquer large parts of the archipelago. Three maritime empires, also called thalassocracies, were particularly influential:One of the first states to dominate the archipelago was Srivijaya (671-1377) in Southern Sumatra. To secure their trade with China, the maharajas of Srivijaya conquered several kingdoms in Sumatra, the Malaysian peninsula, and Java. Naval expeditions even ventured up the Mekong river in mainland Southeast Asia, but the emergence of the powerful Khmer Empire prevented a long-lasting presence. As an international center for Buddhism and education, the capital of Palembang attracted many pilgrims and scholars from all over Asia. Разработчики не собирались «оживлять» AoE, популярной она вряд ли станет, но это и не требуется, ведь оригинал сейчас играется довольно архаично.

Но это уже дань традиции, ничего с этим не поделать. И создатели ремейка поняли это, так что сосредоточились исключительно на звуке и визуальной части. Работа, которая была проделана, позволяет назвать Age of Empires: Definitive Edition как минимум хорошим переизданием, которое можно порекомендовать и ностальгирующим, и зеленым новичкам.
